Maurizio Averna

Maurizio Averna, MD, is Professor of Internal Medicine at University of Palermo Medical School. After his residency in Internal Medicine, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases and Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Palermo, Italy, he completed his training at the Washington University in St. Louis, MO, USA. Maurizio Averna’ research covers the fields of disorders of lipoprotein transport , genetics of hyper and hypolipidemias and cardiovascular diseases focusing on biochemistry and molecular genetics of these cardio-metabolic diseases. In particular he studied the genetic aspects of Familial Hypobetalipoproteinemia, Familial Hypercholesterolemia and Familial Chylomicronemia and the role of pharmacological treatments.
