Prof. Dr. Maryam Kavousi MD PhD is Professor of Population Cardiovascular Health and Principal
Investigator of Cardiometabolic Epidemiology. Her research is focused on primary prevention of
cardiovascular disease, emphasizing sex- and gender-related aspects. Her studies generate new knowledge
about population cardiovascular health with the goal of applying this knowledge to discover new biology,
inform precision cardiovascular prevention strategies, and reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.
Prof. Dr. Kavousi is a member of the Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and
Sciences. She has received multiple (prestigious) Dutch and European research grants and awards. Prof. Dr.
Kavousi has (co)authored over 350 peer-reviewed scientific articles (H-index: 82) published in leading
scientific journals. She has (co)promoted 14 PhD students so far and currently leads a research group of 12
PhD-students, 3 Post-doctoral scientists, and 3 research and administration staff.
