Prof. Emanuele Barbato is a Professor of Cardiology at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine at Sapienza University of Rome and serves as the Clinical Director of the Division of Cardiology at University Hospital Sant'Andrea in Rome, Italy. He received his medical degree and cardiology board certification cum laude from the University of Naples Federico II, followed by a PhD in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. His international experience includes a research fellowship in molecular cardiology at Duke University Medical Center (USA) and an extended tenure as Clinical Research Director and Consultant Cardiologist at the Cardiovascular Center Aalst, OLV Clinic in Belgium.

Professor Barbato is a prominent leader in European interventional cardiology, having served as President of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) from 2022 to 2024 and currently co-chairing the Percutaneous Coronary Revascularization (PCR) program. His editorial and academic contributions include serving as a Deputy Editor for the European Heart Journal (2022–2025) and coordinating various international PhD programs in digital cardiovascular pathophysiology. An expert in complex coronary interventions, intravascular imaging (OCT), and fractional flow reserve (FFR), he has co-authored multiple ESC clinical practice guidelines, published 617 articles, and maintains an H-index of 89.
