Dr. Shelli Kesler is the Mary Lou Adams Endowed Professor of Nursing Oncology, and by courtesy, Professor of Diagnostic Medicine, and Professor of Oncology, at the University of Texas at Austin. She is also the Program Leader for Survivorship and Supportive Care Research at the Livestrong Cancer Institute in Austin, Texas. Her background is in cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology and her specific expertise is in neuroimaging, which she applies to study the mechanisms of cognitive function. Her research focuses on cancer-related cognitive impairment. She has pioneered the application of connectomics, neuroimaging-based prediction, and neurobiologic subtyping to the study of cognitive impairments in patients with cancer. Her work includes both clinical and preclinical studies that focus on translational approaches for measuring the functional and structural connectome in both humans and animals using neuroimaging. She has published over 120 peer reviewed studies and has received more than $14 million in funding for her research, including four NIH R01’s and the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award.
