Professor Ramon Estruch is Senior Consultant of the Internal Medicine Department of the Hospital Clinic (Barcelona), Professor of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, Director of the Research Group on Nutrition, Cardiovascular Diseases and Aging of IDIBAPS (Institut d’Investigació August Pi i Sunyer ) at Barcelona, Member of the Scientific Board of the CIBER Pathophysiology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBER obn) at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Government of Spain (Madrid), and Scientific Director of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation (Barcelona, Spain). He has been the Director of the PREDIMED Study that analyzed the effects of the Mediterranean Diet supplemented with extra virgin olive oil and nuts on cardiovascular disease and cancer. Researchers found consuming a traditional Mediterranean diet supplemented with 40-50 g of extra virgin olive oil and/or 30 g of mixed nuts (walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts) a day decreases coronary heart disease, and diabetes incidence and improve brain function and immune system. He has published more than 550 papers in high-impact journals and in the years 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 has been named one of the most influential scientists in the world (“Highly Cited Researcher” by Claryvate Analytics).
