I am the Director of the ADAPT Research Centre and Professor of Computer Science at the School of Computer Science and Statistics, Trinity College Dublin. I hold a BSc in Computer Applications (1997) and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence (2003), both from Dublin City University.

My academic and research career spans several institutions, including:

·        Media Lab Europe (Postdoctoral Researcher, 2003–2004)

·        German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI, Senior Research Fellow, 2004–2005)

·        Dublin Institute of Technology/TU Dublin (Lecturer, 2005–2015; Academic Lead, ICE Research Institute, 2015–2023)

·        Hamilton Institute, Maynooth University (Professor of Computer Science, 2023–2024)

·        Trinity College Dublin (Professor of Computer Science, 2024–present)

·        ADAPT Research Centre (Director, 2024–2026)

My research expertise is in Artificial Intelligence, with a particular focus on natural language processing and AI for medicine. I have authored several books, including:

·        Data Science (Kelleher & Tierney, MIT Press, 2018)

·        Deep Learning (Kelleher, MIT Press, 2019)

·        Fundamentals of Machine Learning for Predictive Data Analytics, 2nd Edition (Kelleher et al., MIT Press, 2020)

Much of my research in AI for medicine has been supported by European Commission funding. I have contributed to projects such as:

·        Precise4Q: Personalised Medicine by Predictive Modelling in Stroke for Better Quality of Life (https://precise4q.eu)

·        RES-Q+: Developing Virtual Assistance to Improve Data Quality (https://www.resqplus.eu)
