Francesco Trepiccione

Dr. Francesco Trepiccione MD, PhD is a physician-scientist that dedicated his research activity to renal clinical and experimental physiology. As clinical Nephrologist, he is in charge of the hemo and peritoneal dialysis unit of the Nephrology division at University of Campania “L. Vanvitelly” and of an out-patients clinic on Tubulopathies and rare kidney disease. He got his PhD at the Water and Salt Research Center at Aarhus University (DK) where, he acquired the experimental background to investigate the mechanisms regulating renal water reabsorption. He finalized his PhD-education at the laboratory of kidney and electrolyte metabolism at NHLBI at NIH (Bethesda,MD), where he acquired fundamentals for system biology research-approach. Then he was post-doc at the PARCC institute INSERM U970, Paris (FR), where he performed research on the molecular mechanisms regulating sodium and acid-base homeostasis in mouse models of distal Renal Tubular Acidosis and hypertension. Since 2016 he is back in Naples, dedicated his clinical and scientific activity to patients with rare renal disease, mainly focusing on patients affected by nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, hypokalemic tubulopathies, renal tubular acidosis and Fanconi syndrome. In this view he got support from the Italian Telethon Foundation to generate and study an experimental mouse model of Fanconi-Bickel Syndrome and GSD1b. He recently won the ERA Stanley Shaldon Award for Young Investigators in translational science.
