Deborah Carr (PhD, University of Wisconsin) is professor of sociology and director of the Center for Innovation in Social Science at Boston University. She previously held faculty positions at Rutgers University and University of Michigan. Her research focuses on social inequalities in old age, end-of-life issues, bereavement, and family relationships in later life. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and several books including Aging in America (2023, University of California Press) and the award-winning Golden Years? Social Inequality in Later Life (2019, Russell Sage). She served as editor-in-chief of Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences (2015-2020) and is currently editor-in-chief of Journal of Health and Social Behavior (2023-25). Her research has been funded by National Institutes of Health, RRF Founding for Aging, and Bureau of Labor Statistics. Dr. Carr is frequently quoted in the media, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, NBC Nightly News, and more.
