Alessandra Perna
Prof. Alessandra Perna was born in Naples, Italy, on March 25th, 1961. - She obtained her Degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1985, University \"Federico II\", Naples, Italy, summa cum laude. - She trained for three years (1987-90) with Shaul G. Massry at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, now Keck University, and was Research Fellow of the National Kidney Foundation and of the American Heart Association. - She is PhD in Nephrological Sciences (1995), and specialist in Nephrology (1989) and Biochemistry and Clinical Chemistry (1998). - In 2000, she was appointed Assistant Professor, First Division of Nephrology of the Second University of Naples, Chief NG De Santo, and in 2007 Associate Professor of Nephrology. - She obtained the National Scientific Habilitation for Full Professor in 2012 (Sector 06/D2, MED14). - She is Full Professor of Nephrology, Luigi Vanvitelli University, since November 1st, 2019. - She is author of 157 original articles, published on international peer-reviewed journals, of both nephrological interest (J Am Soc Nephrol, Kidney Int, Am J Kidney Dis, Nephrol Dial Transplant), and general interest (JAMA, J Clin Invest, Lancet). She is first author in more than half of them; citations in the literature above 3700; official H index 33 (Scopus). - Since 2004, she is member of EUTox (European Uremic Toxins Working Group), under the auspices of ESAO (European Society of Artificial Organs). - She is recipient of the Niwa prize, for contributions to scientific research on uremic toxins, which was awarded during the 5th International Congress of the Uremic Research and Toxicity, May 18-20 2007, Sopot-Gdansk, Poland. - In 2009, she received the Diploma honoris causa (Honorary membership) of the Romanian Society of Nephrology. - She was President of the Interregional (Campania-Sicily) Society of Nephrology (2019-2021). - She has been invited speaker in more than 100 congresses, national and international (among which Am Soc Nephrol, EDTA-ERA, Renal Research Institute); serves as referee for several scientific journals (Kidney Int, J Am Soc Nephrol, Nephrol Dial Transplant, Nephron, J Nephrol, Am J Nephrol, Am J Kid Dis, J Int Med, Eur J Biochem); is part of the editorial board of Kidney Blood Pressure Res, J Nephrol, and Am J Nephrol. - Over the years, she received funding from National Projects of Relevant Interest (PRIN), the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), the Italian Society of Nephrology. She is one of the beneficiaries of a Horizon 2020 project, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks Grant, which was accepted in 2019. - Specifically, she has experience in clinical trials. In particular, she has been Principal Investigator for the AIFA trial 2005 - code: FARM5XWMZ4 and, as mentioned above, is beneficiary of the Horizon 2020 Marie Curie ITN project (Grant Agreement number: 860329), which entails a clinical trial among its aims.
