Ioseb Abesadze, MD, PhD, is a distinguished Georgian oncologist and palliative care specialist with over three decades of clinical and academic experience. He currently serves as the Medical Director at the Institute of Clinical Oncology in Tbilisi. Throughout his career, he has held pivotal leadership roles, including Clinical Director at the Universal Medical Centre and Chair of the Institute for Cancer Prevention and Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Abesadze’s expertise is backed by extensive international training, including a Palliative Care Fellowship at the San Diego Hospice & Institute of Palliative Medicine (USA) and an ESMO Research Fellowship in Barcelona, Spain. He is deeply involved in medical education, serving as an Assistant Professor of Oncology at Tbilisi State Medical University and acting as a local supervisor for residency training in Family Medicine and Oncology.

A prolific contributor to the field, Dr. Abesadze has authored or co-authored 74 articles and abstracts and four handbooks dedicated to palliative care. He maintains an active role in the global medical community through memberships in the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC), and the Georgian Society of Clinical Oncology, where he serves as a board member.
