Giuseppe Mancia is an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Milano-Bicocca. He graduated cum laude from the University of Siena Medical School in 1964 and obtained his postgraduate specialization diploma in Cardiology and Rheumatology from the same institution in 1967. He earned a PhD in Physiology in 1970 and later worked as a postgraduate fellow and researcher at the Mayo Clinic and Virginia Commonwealth University. His academic career progressed from Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Milan to full Professor of Internal Medicine, first at the University of Milan and later at the University of Milano-Bicocca. Between 1992 and 2012, he served as Head of the Division of Internal Medicine and Chairman of the Clinical Medicine Departments at S. Gerardo Hospital in Monza, while also directing numerous postgraduate medical schools, master’s programs, and research doctorates. He also chaired the Interuniversity Center of Clinical Physiology and Hypertension from 2001 to 2012. Professor Mancia has held many prominent leadership positions in international scientific societies, serving as President of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), the European Society of Clinical Investigation, the Italian Society of Hypertension, and the European Society of Hypertension (ESH). He serves as President of the Italian Foundation on Ricerca e Innovazione su Ipertensione e Protezione Cardiovascolare, Chairman of the ESH Foundation, and Honorary President of the Joint Board of the Italian Scientific Societies operating in cardiovascular prevention. He has a massive bibliometric impact, with an H-index of 192 as of March 2025 and over 241,000 citations accumulated by late 2021. He has been recognized repeatedly as a top expert globally in hypertension, blood pressure control, and cardiovascular research, receiving numerous international lifelong achievement awards and honorary degrees. His editorial contributions include writing or editing more than 20 books and serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Hypertension from 1995 to 2021.
