Valentin Fuster is a world-renowned leader in global cardiovascular medicine, currently serving as the President of Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital and Physician-in-Chief of The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, USA, alongside his role as General Director of the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid, Spain. After studying medicine at the University of Barcelona, his career included professorships at the Mayo Medical School, Mount Sinai, and serving as the Mallinckrodt Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief of Cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. His unparalleled research tracks the causes, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular disease, spanning from basic molecular biology to massive multinational clinical trials, yielding an H-index of 218 and making him the most highly cited Spanish research scientist of all time.Dr. Fuster is the only individual to have received the highest research honors from all four leading cardiovascular organizations: the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology, and the Interamerican Society of Cardiology. His leadership positions include past presidencies of the AHA and the World Heart Federation, as well as serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology for a decade until July 2024. He has been awarded 40 honorary doctorates, the Prince of Asturias Award, the Grand Prix Scientifique of the Institute of France, and was granted the title of Marquis by King Juan Carlos I of Spain for his outstanding research and educational outreach.
