Irakli Rukhadze, MD, PhD, is a prominent Georgian cardiologist and interventionalist with extensive clinical and leadership experience. He currently serves as the Head of the Cardiology Department at the American Hospital Tbilisi (AHT) and is the President of the Georgian Society of Cardiology. His career is defined by a deep commitment to advancing cardiac care in Georgia through both clinical practice and high-level medical administration.

His clinical expertise is centered on Interventional Cardiology, particularly in complex coronary interventions. Dr. Rukhadze has held several key positions throughout his career, including:

  • Medical Director at the Evex Medical Corporation and the Academician Z. Tskhakaya National Center of Interventional Medicine.
  • Head of Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Intensive Care Units at multiple leading medical centers in Georgia.
  • Consultant in Interventional Cardiology for various regional medical programs.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Rukhadze is a dedicated academic and researcher. He holds a PhD in Medicine and has contributed significantly to scientific literature, with numerous publications in international journals such as The Lancet, EuroIntervention, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC). His research interests include acute coronary syndromes, antiplatelet therapy, and stent technology.

He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and serves as the National Coordinator of the Heart Failure Association (HFA) in Georgia. He is also an active member of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI).
