Professor Perry Mark Elliott is a world-renowned authority in heart muscle diseases, currently serving as the Director of the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science and a Professor of Cardiology at University College London (UCL). He completed his medical training at St. Thomas's Hospital Medical School in 1987 and later obtained his specialized MD from St. George's Hospital Medical School in 2001. His research focuses heavily on gene discovery, genotype-phenotype tracking, biomarker exploration via myocardial proteomics, and clinical trial designs, notably inventing clinical risk prediction tools for sudden cardiac death in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that were adopted by the European Society of Cardiology. He has been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher in Clinical Medicine.
Professor Elliott holds major leadership roles across both scientific and philanthropic landscapes. He is the Executive Editor of the European Heart Journal, the President of Europe's foremost heart muscle disease charity, Cardiomyopathy UK, and the founder and Chairman of the International Cardiomyopathy Network (ICON). Within the ESC, he has served as a Councilor, Board Member, and Chairman of the ESC Council for Cardiovascular Genomics and the ESC Heart Academy. Nationally, he has advised the NHS and the Department of Health on inherited cardiovascular frameworks, co-founded the UK Cardiac Pathology Network, and acts as a regular expert witness for NICE.
