Specialist in Medical Oncology and Young Women’s Breast Cancer Highlights Clinical Activity Dr. Borges founded and directs the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Clinic, which covers the unique issues of young women at diagnosis and into their survivorship years. The YWBCC of Colorado offers specialized management in pregnancy and breast cancer, family planning after breast cancer treatment, and clinical trials from diagnosis to advance breast cancer treatments. In collaboration, the YWBCC of Colorado offers genetic testing, counselling and research as well as tailored survivorship care and sexual wellness clinical management. As Director of the University of Colorado Breast Cancer Research Program, Dr. Borges oversees the clinical research team and portfolio of ongoing translational and treatment based clinical protocols offered. The program directly interacts with the Phase I and Molecular Targeted Research Teams to offer a broad opportunity of cutting edge trials for women with advanced breast cancer. Dr. Borges specifically oversees trials on the significant problem of young women’s breast cancer, which carries a high burden of increased metastatic potential and death. Research Activity Founded the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Translational Program in 2004 at the University of Colorado Cancer Center, which is now internationally recognized for its work. This unique translational research program that specifically focuses on why breast cancers in younger women have a greater risk of metastatic potential with a special focus on the subset of pregnancy-associated and post-partum breast cancer. Dr. Borges is the founder and director of this program and has over 20 years of experience as a translational researcher with expertise in preclinical translational tumor immunology and cancer biology, novel translational research clinical trial design, and epidemiologic outcomes.
