Dr Vanessa van Empel is an Associate Professor and staff member at the Maastricht University Medical Centre (Maastricht UMC+), specializing in Cardiology with a focus on heart failure, particularly heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
She studied Medicine at the University of Maastricht, obtained her PhD from the University of Utrecht in 2007 on heart failure, and completed her cardiology training at the Maastricht University Medical Centre in 2011. Following this, she conducted a post-doctoral fellowship at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, to gain expertise in HFpEF.
Her work is dedicated to HFpEF, where she established the HFpEF clinic in Maastricht and is involved in major research projects, including the CVON SHE-PREDICT-HF, which focuses on cardiovascular imaging, biomarkers, microvascular dysfunction, and sex differences in the condition.
