He has published widely in these fields (as documented by 439 full articles retrievable from PubMed/Scopus, with more than 18,000 citations and an official H index of 68), has been invited to deliver numerous lectures at national and international meetings, has served as reviewer for more than 60 journals and has acted as referee in the framework of funding calls from the EC, NIH, JDRF and EFSD. He has been/is involved, in collaboration with national and international leading scientists, in several research projects funded by the Italian Government, EC, EASD/EFSD, JDRF and other agencies.
