Pierluigi Viale

Pierluigi Viale, MD, is full professor of Medicine – Infectious Diseases at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, and in charge at the Infectious Diseases Unit of the Teaching Hospital S. Orsola in Bologna, Italy. He acts as chief of the ID unit and as dean of the university department. His major major research interests are multiple: i) clinical applications of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antimicrobials aimed to realize personalized therapy in selected patient populations, such as critically ill patients, solid organ transplant patients and ESLD patients; ii) epidemiology of infectious risk related to nosocomial acquired infections; iii) antimicrobial stewardship. He is coauthor of more than 300 articles published in international peer reviewed journals (H index = 44; 7575 citations in Scopus checked on Jan 8th, 2020). He is member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Society of Anti-infective Therapy (SITA) and of the Italian Society of Infectious Diseases.
