Clinical lead for academic component of diabetes care in Leeds (3 senior lecturers) - Head of the Division of Cardiovascular and Diabetes Research (2009-12), a clinical research unit comprised of ~40 clinicians, basic scientists and support staff. This unit has an international reputation in the field of diabetes and thrombotic risk. - Over 75 successful grant applications since 1989, of which 59 grants have been awarded since 2000 totalling £7.7m, including a British Heart Foundation 5 year programme grant as PI and a 1.5m Euro framework 6 grant as co-director. - Supervision of 19 PhD and 12 MD awarded since 1990. - Publication of ~200 original articles in peer reviewed journals with an additional 70 reviews and book chapters. - Member of organizing committees for the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, International Society for Fibrinolysis and Proteolysis and the World Congress on Insulin Resistance.(2003-17) • Research Director for the School of Medicine and Academic Lead for the 2001 RAE return for Units of assessment 1,2 and 3. This led to an increase in funding of £1.5m . • Academic Lead and Director for the development of the Leeds Institute of Genetics Health and Therapeutics laboratories (2002-2005). This was a £10m SRIF-funded initiative to develop the first biomedical facility in Leeds and was supported by a further £1m SRIF2 equipment grant. • Academic Lead for Unit of Assessment 1 (Cardiovascular research) for RAE 2007. • Editor in Chief of the international Journal, Diabetes and Vascular Disease Research (2004-present day). • Co-chair, EASD/ESC Working party on vascular risk in diabetes (2010-2013) • Fellow Academy of Medical Sciences April 2012
