MBBS, DMed, FRACP, FAAHMS, FThorSoc, FAPSR, FERS A past president of TSANZ (from 2015-16), Professor Peter Gibson is a respiratory physician and clinical scientist studying the disease mechanisms and treatment of severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cough and other airway disorders. A concept leader with >680 published journal articles, Peter has developed innovative approaches around inflammatory subtypes of asthma and cough, airway biomarkers, neurogenic mechanisms, treatments for refractory cough and multidimensional assessment and management of complex airway disorders. He has participated in numerous national and international respiratory guideline panels, and currently co-leads the new Centre of Research Excellence in Asthma Treatment Traits, based in Newcastle. Peter has held concurrent NHMRC practitioner fellowships since 2004 and has received numerous prestigious honours for his contribution to respiratory medicine research including the 2018 ERS Gold medal in Asthma.
