Nigel Russell

Professor Nigel Russell qualified at Liverpool University Medical School. He undertook clinical and research training in Haematology in Liverpool, Paris and at the Royal Free Hospital in London. He was appointed as Consultant Haematologist at Nottingham University Hospital and Senior Lecturer in Haematology at the University of Nottingham in 1985 and Professor of Haematology in 1997. He was subsequently Director of the Leukaemia service and the Nottingham University Hospital BMT Programme. He is an Honorary Professor of Medicine at the Cardiff University School of Medicine. He was Chair of the NCRI (formerly MRC) AML Working Group from 2011-2019 was a Co-Chief Investigator of the AML17 trial and is now the Chief Investigator of the ongoing NCRI AML18 and AML19 trials. He has published over 300 papers in the field of AML and allogeneic transplantation. His current work focuses on clinical trials particularly the integration of new agents into the treatment pathway and the use of MRD analysis for risk stratification in AML. In 2019 he was appointed Emeritus Professor of Haematology at Nottingham and in January 2020 he took up the post of Consultant in Haematology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London working on AML trials.
