Professor Nadey Hakim is a world-renowned specialist in Bariatric and Kidney/Pancreas Transplantation surgery. He currently serves as the Professor of Transplantation Surgery at Imperial College London and Professor of General Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic London. Professor Hakim achieved a significant milestone in medical history as the British surgeon on the international team that performed the world’s first successful arm transplant. He also pioneered the first Pancreas Transplant Programme in south-east England.
Professor Hakim holds a PhD from the University of London and gained his medical degree from Paris Descartes University, where he was awarded "Laureate of the Faculty of Medicine". His academic and professional reach is global, holding five honorary professorships at international universities and serving as a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers and authored 24 textbooks, establishing himself as a prolific figure in surgical literature.
Throughout his career, he has held prestigious leadership roles, including World President of the International College of Surgeons and Vice President of the Royal Society of Medicine. Currently, he is the President Elect of the Transplantation Society. In recognition of his distinguished service, he was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 2016. He is also a member of the Académie Française de Médecine and was the first surgeon to receive the Max Thorek Professorship of Surgery.
