Merab Kiladze M.D., Ph.D. is Professor of Surgery, heading Department of Surgery at Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and at American Hospital Tbilisi. He graduated from Tbilisi State Medical Institute and accomplished his research and clinical fellowships at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, (USA), National Centers of Surgery and Oncology, Moscow (Russia), National Cancer Center Hospital, Tokyo (Japan), Medical Center of Technical University, Munich (Germany). As Visiting Professor, he used to work in Surgical University Clinic of Wurzburg and Frankfurt am Main (Germany), and Sheba Medical Center (Tel-Aviv, Israel).
Merab A. Kiladze, MD, PhD, is a highly distinguished Georgian surgeon and academic, currently serving as the Chief of the Department of Surgery at the American Hospital Tbilisi (AHT). With a career spanning over four decades, he is a prominent figure in general, oncological, and laparoscopic surgery. He also holds the position of Professor of Surgery at Tbilisi State Medical University and is a Full Member (Academician) of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences.
Professor Kiladze’s extensive medical training includes prestigious international fellowships at the Mayo Clinic (USA), the National Cancer Center Hospital in Tokyo (Japan), and the Technical University of Munich (Germany). He earned his PhD in 1993, focusing on surgical treatments for gastric cancer, and has since become a leading expert in complex abdominal surgeries, emergency surgery, and surgical oncology.
Throughout his career, he has held significant leadership roles, including serving as the Chief Surgeon of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia (2001–2004) and Head of the Surgical Department at the Tbilisi State University (TSU) High Technology University Clinic. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and an active member of several international associations, including the International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC) and the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES).
A prolific academic, Professor Kiladze has published 212 scientific articles and 4 monographs. He has also served as the scientific editor for several major medical texts, including the Georgian edition of Schein's Common Sense Emergency Abdominal Surgery.
