Marina V. Shestakova

MD, PhD, Professor, Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, Honoured Science Worker of the Russian Federation Highlights Professor Shestakova is Director of the Diabetes Institute of the Endocrinology Research Center , Moscow, Russia. She is also a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), American Diabetes Association (ADA) and International Diabetes Federation (IDF). Professor Shestakova is the author of more than 500 publications in national and international medical journals, including 9 monographs and 20 guides, and is the member oа editorial board of the journal Problems of endocrinology, Diabetes Mellitus , Therapeutic Archive and Nutrition & Diabetes. Clinical activity Main clinical and scientific activities include diabetes mainly diabetic nephropathy, arterial hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. Research activity Professor Shestakova is an author of the major work, \"Creation of modern technologies for diagnostics, treatment and preventive of the diabetes mellitus and its introduction in practice of Public Health Services of the Russian Federation\". She and the team of co-authors were awarded Government prizes in science and technology for this work in 2012. Prof Shestakova is a principal investigator in more than 20 randomized controlled trials (including RENAAL, ADVANCE, ONTARGET, VIVALDI, CRESCENDO, TREAT, ATLAS and EAGLE). She was also national coordinator in several trials (LEADER, SAVOR-TIMI53, DECLARE, IDMPS). Teaching activity The chief of the Diabetology and Dietology chamber. The invited speaker of the Russian Endocrinology Society, Russian Society of Internal medicine, Russian Society of cardiologists.
