Scientific activity: Dr. Marcello Rattazzi started his research activity in the cardiovascular field in 2000. His research interest is primarily focused on the pathophysiological mechanisms of cardiovascular disease, mainly mechanisms of atherogenesis and vascular/valve calcification. He designed several research projects aimed at describing the phenotypic characteristics of vascular cells actively involved in calcification of atherosclerotic lesions and aortic valves (Rattazzi et al. ATVB 2005, Rattazzi et al. ATVB 2008, Bertacco et al. J Prot Res 2010, Preutsch et al. ATVB 2008, Albiero et al. Basic Res Cardiol. 2013, Rattazzi et al. ATH 2014 and 2020). Dr. Rattazzi has also been involved in the conduction of clinical studies on hypertensive/hypercholesterolemic patients with a specific focus on the mechanisms of cardiovascular organ damage and the effects of pharmacological interventions (Puato et al. Stroke 2010, Rattazzi et al. Cardiovasc Ther 2016 e 2018, Palatini et al. Hypertension 2022). More recently he also performed clinical studies investigating the link between atherosclerotic risk factors and venous thromboembolism (Rattazzi et al. JTH 2012, Rattazzi et al. Clin Sci, 2013, Rattazzi et al. Thromb Res 2015, Rattazzi et al. Thromb Res 2017, De Lucchi et al. JTH 2021, Bressan et al. Semin Thromb Hemost. 2023).
