Marc Possover began his medical studies at the University of Nancy in France at the age of 15, graduated at the age of 22 and became a cardio-vascular surgeon. In 1990 he began a second specialist training in gynaecology and obstetrics and was the first in Germany to introduce laparoscopy in the field of gyneco-oncology. After having learned the schauta technique in Lyon by D. Dargent 1993, he started his professional activity at the University of Jena where spread vaginal surgery of uterine/cervix cancer (the so-called Schauta operation) and combined it with the \"laparoscopic lymphonodectomy\". In 1996 Prof. Possover also performed the first laparoscopic bowel resection for the treatment of rectal endometriosis in Germany; this was followed by the first bladder and ureter resections, as well as the laparoscopic intervention for the treatment of endometriosis of the sciatic nerve for about 15 years. - an area in which Prof. Possover is considered to be the \"worldwide leading expert\". Thus he has not only set \"cornerstones\" in laparocoscopic gynaeco-oncology, but has also moved a \"continuing process\" over the past 20 years in pelvic surgery, which has brought laparoscopic surgery far forward to the field of the pelvic neurosurgery: this way he developed a completely new specialty in medicine, the “neuropelveology\", which field of expertise deals with diagnosis and therapies of pathologies of the pelvic nerves and plexuses. In 2003, he was the first in the world to implant electrodes in a paraplegic patient by laparoscopy to restore leg functions. 2006 he used the same surgical procedure - also called LION procedure - to restore bladder and bowel function in a paraplegic woman. Prof. Possover is Director of The Possover International Medical Center AG in Zurich, Ass. Professor of Neuropelveology at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, HPL Professor at the University of Cologne, Germany and Honorary Professor at the University of Xi’an, China. Prof. Possover is also Fonder President and Chairman of the International Society of Neuropelveology.
