Luiz Gonzaga Vaz Coelho

Professor Luiz Gonzaga V. Coelho is Professor of Medicine of Faculty of Medicine at Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, and former Director of Alfa Institute of Gastroenterology at UFMG Clinic’s Hospital in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He earned his MSc. and PhD. from the UFMG, and then became a research-fellow (Gastroenterology Dept.) at Hammersmith Hospital/Royal Postgraduate Medical School, and St. Charles and St. Mary´s Hospital and Medical School, University of London, UK (1986-7). Past-President of the Brazilian Federation of Gastroenterology (2004-6) is currently the President-Elect of the Brazilian Nucleus for the Study of Helicobacter pylori Infection and Microbiota (2023-4), and corresponding-fellow of the European Helicobacter and Microbiota Study Group. His research interests are H. pylori infection, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer, and 13C-breath tests in gastroenterology. He headed the Latin-American Consensus Conference on H. pylori infection (2000), and all four Brazilian Consensus on H. pylori Infection (1996, 2005, 2013 and 2018). He has published over 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals, over 150 book chapters, and edited/co-edited 11 medical books.
