Juan José Gorgojo-Martínez

Juan José Gorgojo-Martínez is a specialist in Endocrinology and Nutrition. He obtained a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Universidad Complutense (Madrid, Spain) in 1991 and completed his Endocrinology and Nutrition residency at the Endocrinology Department of the General University Hospital Gregorio Marañón (Madrid, Spain) between 1993-1996. Juan José Gorgojo-Martínez is currently the Head of Department of Endocrinology and Nutrition at the University Hospital Fundación Alcorcón (Madrid, Spain). He has been working as an endocrinologist in this institution since 1999. He has a Postgraduate Master’s Degree in Research Methodology in Health Sciences (Universidad Autónoma Barcelona, Spain, 2009) and a Postgraduate Master's Degree in Clinical Management of Units of Endocrinology and Nutrition. (Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, Madrid, 2018). In 2021, he completed the Executive Program in Management of Endocrinology Departments at IESE University of Navarra, Spain. Dr Gorgojo-Martínez’s current research interests are in medical and surgical treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes and in the adipocentric strategy in the management of type 2 diabetes. He has been national coordinator of the prospective multinational study DISCOVER, national leader of the cardiovascular outcome trial SOUL and principal investigator in 12 clinical trials and observational studies in obesity and type 2 diabetes. He has published over 50 articles in national and international scientific journals and over 20 chapters in books. He is a frequent lecturer in national and international meetings (USA, Portugal, Mexico, Central America and Caribbean, Argentina, Saudi Arabia). Dr Gorgojo-Martínez is a member of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition, the Spanish Society of Diabetes and the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity.
