Professor José Manuel Fernández-Real is a distinguished academic and researcher with a wide range of accomplishments in the field of endocrinology and nutrition. He currently holds the position of Full Professor at the University of Girona (UdG) and serves as the Head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Section at the Hospital \"Dr Josep Trueta.\" Additionally, he is an outstanding research scientist at the Girona Biomedical Research Institute and leads the renowned Nutrition, Eumetabolism, and Health research group. Professor Fernández-Real also serves as the Dean of the School of Medicine at UdG and holds the position of Scientific Director at \"FatBank,\" a national Biobank specializing in adipose tissue. He is deeply involved in the research of obesity as the Principal Investigator and a member of the Steering Committee of the CIBERobn, a Network of Excellence in Obesity Research in Spain. From 2018 to 2023, he served as the Director of the Department of Medical Sciences at the School of Medicine (UdG). Additionally, he currently holds the position of Dean of the School of Medicine of Girona and serves as the President of the Catalan Diabetes Association. Professor Fernández-Real obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Barcelona, Spain. He initiated his scientific career at the University Hospital of Girona, where he played a crucial role in the development of the First Research Institute in 2006 and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Girona in 2008. Over the past three decades, he has dedicated his research efforts to studying obesity, insulin resistance, and associated metabolic disorders. He has made significant contributions to the field, publishing over 538 articles indexed in PubMed, with more than 270 as the corresponding author and 108 as the first author. With an impressive H-index of 98 (Google Scholar), 76 (Web of Science), and 80 (Scopus), Professor Fernandez-Real's work has garnered substantial recognition. He has received over 38,600 citations (Google Scholar) and is recognized as one of the 40 most cited authors worldwide in the field of Endocrinology (Google Scholar).
