Professor John Deanfield CBE is a Professor of Cardiology at University College London (UCL) and an internationally prominent figure in cardiovascular health, proactive treatment, and preventative medicine. His research has been instrumental in shifting clinical focus toward the early prevention of disease onset rather than treating established pathologies, famously championing the concept of "Investing in your Arteries" through assessing lifetime cumulative exposure to cardiovascular risk factors. In recognition of his massive contributions to the field, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2021.
Professor Deanfield founded and directed the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR) and has been at the forefront of utilizing real-world data for large-scale clinical trials and national healthcare quality improvements. He serves as the UK government's first Champion for Personalised Prevention, shaping national healthcare strategy. Furthermore, he is a Trustee for the UK's Our Future Health programme and Chairs the International Scientific Committee at the Springer Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center in Berlin. As a researcher, he has published over 590 peer-reviewed articles in top journals such as The Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine, achieving an H-index of 164.
