Ignacio Blanco Guillermo

Ignacio Blanco, Doctor in Medicine and Surgery, specialist in General and Digestive Surgery, Clinical Geneticist accredited by the Spanish Association of Human Genetics (AEGH) and accredited in Genetic Counseling in Hereditary Cancer by the Spanish Association of Medical Oncology (SEOM). He is currently the Clinical Director of the Laboratori Clínic Metropolitana Nord, Catalan Health Institute and Coordinator of the Clinical Genetics and Counseling Program of the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital. His care work focuses on the identification and follow-up of individuals and families with genetic-based diseases, with special interest in rare diseases such as neurofibromatosis. In relation to the care of patients with Neurofibromatosis, Dr. Blanco is: 1) Coordinator of the National Reference Center in Adult Facomatosis (CSUR Facomatosis) appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Health; 2) Member of the National Board and National Coordinator of the European Network of Reference Centers for the care of patients with hereditary predisposition to tumors (ERN-GENTURIS) that includes Neurofibromatosis, recently designated by the European Economic Community (www.genturis.eu ); 3) Medical and scientific advisor of the Spanish Association of Affected Neurofibromatosis (AEAN) and the Catalan Association of Neurofibromatosis (AcNefi); 4) Member of the Consell Assessor of Malalties Minoritàries of the Department of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia; 5) Member of the Advisory Committee of the National Commission for Assisted Human Reproduction (CNRHA); and 6) Member of the Advisory Committee of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER). He has participated in the development of clinical practice guidelines, both national and international, for the management of hereditary predisposition to cancer syndromes. He is the author or co-author of more than 150 articles in indexed journals and at the teaching level he is Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In the area of Research, Dr. Blanco is member of the Neurofibromatosis Research Group recognized by the Generalitat of Catalonia (2017 SGR 496) and leads different projects related to the emotional impact of the predisposition to tumors, quality of life and body image in neurofibromatosis.
