Gian Maria Rossolini is Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the University of Florence, Italy, and Director of the Clinical Microbiology and Virology Unit of Florence Careggi University Hospital. Previously, he served as Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the University of Siena, where he also acted as Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology and as Dean of the Medical Faculty. He has been Chair of the Antimicrobials Committee of the Italian Society of Clinical Microbiologists, is currently a member of the coordination group for the Italian National Plan for Contrasting Antimicrobial Resistance. He has also acted as reviewer/advisor on behalf of national and international Funding Agencies for the evaluation of research grant applications and of academic institutions for the evaluation of academic professorships. He has also been Editor of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy and has authored more than 470 scientific papers listed in the PubMed database. His main research interests include antimicrobial agents and resistance mechanisms, microbial biotechnology, surveillance and molecular epidemiology, and the clinical impact of microbial drug resistance and nosocomial infections.
