He heads the gynecologic oncology section at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital – Netherlands Cancer Institute and the Amsterdam University Medical Centers, , where yearly >1000 new patients consult. Research activity Frédéric Amant heads the Gynecologic Oncology research section at the University of Leuven, Belgium. In 2005 he founded the ESGO taskforce on Cancer in Pregnancy, now the “International Network on Cancer, Infertility and Pregnancy” (INCIP) (www.cancerinpregnancy.org), and chairs this network up till now. The INCIP’s main objective was to create a registry of pregnant cancer patients. The INCIP network now consists of over 86 members from 66 medical centers from over 27 different countries. The design of the INCIP registry allows the collection of retrospective (before 2005) and prospective (from 2005 onward) data, to support studies that are aimed at improving oncological management during pregnancy and obstetric outcome. To our knowledge, the INCIP registry is the largest international registry of patients with cancer diagnosed during pregnancy, with now over 2500 registered patients. Since 2014, INCIP also registers young women who aim to preserve their fertility. In his cancer in pregnancy research, Frédéric Amant mainly focuses on: - Documenting the general well-being, neurological, cardiologic outcome of children after in utero exposure to chemo– and/or radiotherapy. - Pharmacokinetics of chemotherapy during pregnancy and transplacental passage of different drugs. - The prognosis of breast cancer during pregnancy. - Maternal and paternal psychological wellbeing when cancer is diagnosed during pregnancy. - An international registration study with online patient registration to collect oncological, obstetrical and perinatal data on female patients who become pregnant after any type of cancer. In addition, Frédéric Amant founded Trace, the tumor xenograft platform at the KULeuven aiming to bring basic research closer to the clinic. Here, he focuses on better treatment modalities for epithelial and mesenchymal uterine cancers.
