Ewout J. Hoorn, MD, PhD, is Professor of Nephrology at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. His research interests include basic and clinical aspects of renal tubular transport and the link with human disease, including fluid & electrolyte disorders, salt-sensitive hypertension, and chronic kidney disease (www.rotterdamkidneylab.com). Clinically, he coordinates a center of expertise for inherited kidney disease with a focus on tubulopathies and polycystic kidney disease (within the European Reference Network, ERKNet). He is also the coordinating PI of a national research consortium that studies the potential renoprotective role of potassium in chronic kidney disease. His research is supported by the Dutch Kidney Foundation, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, and the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
