Ernesto L. Schiffrin, C.M., MD, PhD, FRSC, FRCPC, FACP, FAHA, is Physician-in-Chief Emeritus, Jewish General Hospital, Director of the Hypertension and Vascular Research Unit, Lady Davis Institute, Distinguished James McGill Professor and former Associate Chair, Department of Medicine, McGill University. Dr. Schiffrin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and obtained his MD from the University of Buenos Aires and a PhD in Experimental Medicine from McGill University. He is a specialist in Internal Medicine subspecializing in cardiovascular medicine and hypertension. Dr. Schiffrin's research addresses mechanisms and treatment of hypertension, from molecules and cells to humans; the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone, endothelin and natriuretic peptide systems, and inflammation and immunity’s role vascular remodeling. He is author of 631 publications, many book chapters and editor of 4 books. His h-index is 137. Dr. Schiffrin was President, Canadian Hypertension Society (1991–92); Chair, Hypertension Council, American Heart Association (2002–04); President, International Society of Hypertension (ISH) (2012–14); President, Hypertension Canada (2013-16). He was Associate Editor of Hypertension (2003-15), and is Editor-in-Chief, American Journal of Hypertension (2016-).
