Evangelos Liberopoulos is an internist, lipidologist, and diabetologist who graduated from the University of Ioannina Medical School in Greece. He went on to specialize in lipid disorders and cardiovascular disease prevention at the Royal Free Hospital (UCL) in London, UK, and advanced his training in diabetes at the Diabetology Centre of the 'Laikon' General Hospital of Athens. Currently, he serves as a Professor of Medicine-Metabolic Diseases within the School of Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, operating inside the 1st Propedeutic Department of Medicine at the 'Laiko' General Hospital. His core clinical and academic fields involve dyslipidemia, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and acid-base or electrolyte imbalances. Professor Liberopoulos is highly productive in medical literature, having authored over 400 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, accumulating more than 16,000 citations and an H-index of 69. He has significant organizational influence, acting as the National Leader for the HELLAS-FH registry, the National Coordinator for the ACCLAIM-Lp(a) study, and a steering committee member for the Familial Hypercholesterolemia Studies Collaboration (FHSC). Furthermore, he is an Executive Committee Member of the European Atherosclerosis Society (2024–2027) and the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society (2024–2026).
