C.D.A (Coen) Stehouwer is professor of medicine at the University of Maastricht. He is a clinician-scientist in the field of complications of diabetes. His work is well-recognized as shown by a Hirsh index of 129 (Web of Science); >80,000 citations; and several awards. He has initiated The Maastricht Study (started 2011), a state-of-the-art observational study in ~9,000 individuals without and with diabetes that is unique in applying deep phenotyping with regard to biological, psychological, social and environmental variables. Prof. Stehouwer is Chair of the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) and a member of the executive board of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).
