Dr. rer. nat. Nicolle Kränkel is a biotechnologist and cell biologist who completed her degree in biotechnology in Jena, Germany, followed by a biological doctorate at the University of Leipzig. Her research track includes a postdoctoral stay in Bristol, United Kingdom, funded by an EC Marie Curie fellowship, and a subsequent research stay at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, supported by an Ambizione fellowship. Currently, she is heading the translational cardiovascular research laboratory at the Department of Cardiology within the Charité Campus Benjamin Franklin in Berlin, Germany, and serves as the scientific coordinator of the Friede Springer Cardiovascular Prevention Center of the Charité.
Dr. Kränkel’s research evaluates the molecular mechanisms that mediate individual cardiovascular risk profiles and physical responses to medical therapies, particularly targeted exercise. Her laboratory places a specific focus on the bidirectional interactions between the immune system and cellular energy metabolism in target organs like the heart and skeletal muscle, alongside studying vascular endothelial function in cardiovascular prevention. Highly active in European networks, she served as the Secretary of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC) from 2018 to 2022, sits on the ESC Nominating Committee, has directed the scientific program for four consecutive ESC Preventive Cardiology congresses, and contributes as an editorial board member for ESC TV Today.
