Carsten A. Wagner studied medicine at the University of Tubingen (Germany) where he started to work with A. Busch and F. Lang on mechanisms of epithelial transport. After completing his medical dissertation, he trained further as postdoctoral fellow with G. Giebisch and J. Geibel at Yale University studying renal acid-base physiology. At the University of Zurich (Switzerland) he worked with H. Murer, received his Habilitation, and is now a professor of Physiology with his main research interests in the field of acid-base and phosphate homeostasis in health and disease. He also served as co-chair and chair of the ERA Scientific Advisory Board.
