Carolina Garcia-Vidal is Specialist in Infectious Diseases Department in Hospital Clínic, Barcelona. She has a contagious enthusiasm as well as a powerful dedication to infectious diseases. She won among others the young investigator award for research by the Spanish Society of Medicine (2009), the young investigator award for research by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (2014), the ECCMID Fellowship (2019) and the EIT Health award 2020 for innovation by the European Union (2020). She has been member of the Scientific affairs subcommittee at European Society of Clinical Microbiology (2016-2020) and the ECCMID programme committee (2016-2019).
Her research focuses on immunocompromised host infections and respiratory tract infection. Her work is based on clinical research and covers a large range of topics, including among others severe infections in onco-hematologic patients and transplantation (i.e multidrug-resistant infections), fungal infections, COVID19, pneumonia, and infections in patients receiving biological therapies. She has produced much original data, and published more than 295 indexed publications in several prominent journals with more than 15 400 citations. Her present Hirsch Index is 66. Global i10 index 201. She has spoken in more than 700 national and international meetings.
In recent months she has started several projects in artificial intelligence as it applies to medicine, becoming a leading source of reference in this field.
