WORK RELATED ACHIEVEMENTS 2010 instituted an outpatient program of metabolic evaluation of patients with kidney stones at the Department of Nephrology in cooperation with the central laboratory 2011 cofounder of the first urinary clinical and research laboratory as part of the Department of Nephrology in Slovenia, currently the Head of the laboratory 2013 working as a Nephrology Consultant at the Department of Nephrology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana 2020 in cooperation with our hospitals Department of clinical nutrition instituted a new outpatient clinic for nutritional evaluation and support in patients with kidney diseases which I have been leading since its beginning 2022 working as an assistant professor at the Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana WORK AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE ABROAD 2005 three-month humanitarian work in Zambia – one month at the University Hospital in Lusaka and two months at a Mission Hospital near Kitwe 2008 one-month research exchange program at the Department of Nephrology, University Hospital Hannover (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover) in prof. Schiffer’s group 2011 two-week course in urine examination led by prof. Fogazzi at the University Hospital in Milan (Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico) 2012 six-month research exchange program at the Department of Nephrology, University Hospital Hannover (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover) in prof. Schiffer’s group where I did most of my doctoral thesis AWARDS AND FELLOWSHIPS 2000 Plečnik award for greatest student achievement in the fields of pathology, anatomy and histology 2004 Prešeren award for student research project: “Systemic inflammatory response syndrome in patients examined at an infectious disease emergency department” 2008 “The Bruno Watschinger poster prize” for the best poster at the Danube Symposium of Nephrology 2008 2022 Distinguished Fellow of the ERA (FERA) WORK IN SOCIETIES • Slovenian Society of Nephrology: Secretary of the Society (2013 – 2021), President of the Society (2021 – ). As the Secretary and President of the Society I have organized over 30 educational events for members of the Society and for primary care practitioners and residents of Nephrology and Internal Medicine, including international events: 6th and 7th Slovenian Congress of Nephrology, UREX 2015 (a hands-on course on urine examination organized together with prof. Fogazzi), Slovenian-Croatian meeting on peritoneal dialysis 2016, EuroPD 2019. I have been an active participant in World Kidney Day activities since 2010 and am currently the national coordinator for WKD activities. • European Renal Association: from 2016 – 2019 I was the representative from Slovenia in the ERA-EDTA Activation Committee for Central Europe that included representatives from Slovakia, Russia and Georgia. As a member of this Committee, I performed a nationwide survey in Slovenia regarding the assessment of ERA-EDTA activities and possible future goals which was presented to the Council. I also drafted a proposal for a new online service entitled ERA-EDTA Expert Opinion on Difficult Clinical Cases. The proposal was presented at the ERA-EDTA meeting of presidents of National Societies in Budapest 2019 and received the support of President Carmine Zoccali but was later not picked up. As a member of the Committee, I also participated at educational events in Slovakia and Russia. Additionally, I organized a membership arrangement between ERA and the Slovenian Society of Nephrology (SSN) by which all members of SSN are members of ERA. I provided Slovenian recipes for the ERA Cookbook. From March 2022 I have been working as a member of the ERA Renal Disaster Task Force. Sincer 2022 I am a member of the Electronic Communication Committee of the ERA. Currently I am leading a new ECC project producing a series of podcasts entitled A Pinch of Salt – A podcast by ERA. • International Society of Nephrology: from 2020 I am a member of the ISN Eastern and Central European Regional Board. As a member of this board, I organized an ISN webinar and course on kidney stones in 2023.
