Alexandros Spdyridonidis

Alexandros Spyridonidis is Professor of Hematology in Medical School of University of Patras/ Greece, Director of the BMT at U Hospital of Patras and Director of the Institute of Cellular Therapy and of the CBMDP donor Centre at U of Patras. After completing his medical studies in U of Thessaloniki/ Greece (1992) and his military and rural service in Greece (1993-1995), he joined the Dept. of Hematology/Oncology of U of Freiburg/Germany (1995-2005) where he completed his PhD Thesis on hematopoietic stem cell biology and engineering and the German Board certification in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology. He has been working in the field of BMT since 1996 and has spent a research sabbatical year (2012) at the National Institutes of Health, USA (Prof. J. Barrett’s Lab) working on the clinical establishment adoptive cell therapies. He has been given the Venia Legendi (Privat Dozent) of the U of Freiburg in 2004 and was appointed in 2005 Assistant Professor and in 2015 full Professor at the U of Patras where he established a fully accredited Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Program (EBMT CIC Team 281), the first in Greece “Centre of Bone Marrow Donor Volunteers University of Patras (CBMDP)” and the “Institute of Cellular Therapy”. He is/was Board Member of the Hellenic Society of Haematology (HSH), Founding and Board Member of the “Hellenic Society of Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine”, Advisory Board Member of the BMT Committee of the Hellenic National Transplant Organization, President of the BMT Scientific Group of the HSH and Board Member of the Scientific Council of the Prefecture of Western Greece. Outside Greece, he is/was Hellenic Representative in European Union in “Tissues and Cells” Section, Co-leader of the RIC-Committee of Acute Leukemia Working Party (ALWP) of EBMT, Board Member of the “Centre of the Study of Haematological Malignancies” in Cyprous, Inspector of the Joint JACIE/FACT and Mentor at the H-Net Masterclass of the European Hematology Association (EHA). He is associated editor in many journals including “Bone Marrow Transplantation”, has more than >100 publications and >25 chapters in international books and has received 15 national and 12 international awards and many research grants from multiple sources, mainly in the field of BMT and acute leukemias.
